The City of El Dorado is unique in that it is the only city in
the state of Kansas to contract directly with the Corps of Engineers
for its raw water source - El Dorado Lake. The 8,000 acre reservvoir
is joinly owned by the city, the Kansas State Park Authority and the
U.S. Corps of Engineers. The City of El Dorado holds sole ownership

Location/Transportation
Highways
El Dorado, Kansas, the county seat of Butler County, is located
on the Kansas Turnpike (I-35), just 25 minutes norhteast of Wichita.
It is also served by U.S. Highways 54 and 77 as well as Kansas Highways
400, 196 and 254. Highway 254, a 4-lane highway, provides an excellent
connection between El Dorado and Wichita. This access to major highways
makes El Dorado an ideal location for moving freight by truck. There
are 55 motor carriers in the immediate area as well as 16 terminals.
El Dorado has next day delivery to Dallas, Denver, Kansas City, Minneapolis,
St. Louis and other major cities in the United States (see map).

Air
El Dorado's Captain Jack Thomas Municipal Airport has a
4200 X 75 foot runway with adjacent taxiways. The runway is lighted
and increases the prevailing wind landing capability to 96 percent.
The
nearest commercial airport is Wichita Mid Continent Airport,
located just west of Wichita, 36 miles from El Dorado. It is served
by a number of major airlines.
In addition,
large private jets can land at Jabara Airport, in northeast
Wichita, just 20 miles away.
Rail
The Burlington Northern Santa Fe and Union Pacific railroads
serve El Dorado. A spur was added to our Industrial Park in 1998.
